Coal production increased by 10.75 percent to 92.87 million in December, 2023

Coal Ministry achieved huge increase in total coal production during December 2023. The production has reached 92.87 million tonnes (MT), surpassing last year's figure of 83.86 million tonnes and showing a growth of 10.75 per cent. Coal India Limited (CIL) production has increased by 8.27 percent to 71.86 million tonnes in December 2023, compared to 66.37 million tonnes in December 2022. Cumulative coal production (up to December 2023) has increased to 684.31 million tonnes in FY 23-24 as against 608.34 million tonnes during the same period in FY 22-23. This shows an increase of 12.47 percent in production.

Coal dispatch reached 86.23 million tonnes in December 2023 from 79.58 million tonnes in December 2022. This shows remarkable progress with a growth rate of 8.36 percent. Coal India Limited (CIL) dispatches stood at 66.10 million tonnes in December 2023 as against 62.66 million tonnes in December 2022, registering a growth of 5.49 per cent. Cumulative coal dispatch (till December 2023) in FY 23-24 has increased by 11.36 per cent to 709.80 million tonnes as against 637.40 million tonnes during the same period in FY 22-23.

The coal sector has witnessed unprecedented growth, with production, dispatch and stock levels reaching remarkable heights. Coal PSUs have contributed to this growth and have played an important role in driving this progress. This underlines the dedication of the coal supply chain, ensuring uninterrupted distribution of coal across the country. The Coal Ministry reiterates its commitment to maintain sustained coal production and dispatch, ensuring uninterrupted supply for a reliable and robust energy sector.
