Government of India’s boost for Gobardhan initiative


Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan (Gobardhan) is a major multi-ministerial initiative of the Government of India aimed at converting biodegradable/organic wastes including cattle dung and agricultural residues and other biomass into biogas, compressed biogas (CBG), and organic fertilizers such as The aim is to convert valuable resources and promote the circular economy through an innovative approach of “whole of government”.

The Budget Announcement 2023 provided a major boost to this transformative initiative by announcing the setting up of 500 new “waste to Kanchan” plants with an investment of Rs 10,000 crore. During FY 2023-24, 198 plants were set up, including 12 compressed biogas (CBG) plants and 186 biogas plants. Additionally, 556 plants are under construction, including 129 CBG plants and 427 biogas plants.
