NHPC partners with Norwegian company Ocean Sun to enter solar power sector

NHPC Limited, the largest hydropower development organization in India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with M/s Ocean Sun, a Norwegian company to act as a technology provider for the floating solar industry industry. As per this MoU, National Hydroelectric Corporation (NHPC) and Ocean Sun will explore key areas of collaboration for the demonstration of Ocean Sun's floating solar power technology based on photovoltaic panels. Such panels will be mounted on hydro-elastic membranes at relevant sites identified by NHPC.

This agreement is in continuation of the efforts to enhance sustainable development and renewable energy capacity by NHPC, which is engaged not only in hydro power development but also in various renewable energy projects like solar, wind and green hydrogen projects.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at the Embassy of Norway, New Delhi yesterday on 29th April, 2024 by Shri V.R., Executive Director (Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen), NHPC. The signing was done in hybrid mode by Srivastava and Mr. Kristian Torvalds, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ocean Sun. Her Excellency Ms. May-Ellin Steiner, Ambassador of Norway to India; Director (Technical), NHPC, Shri Raj Kumar Chaudhary and Executive Director (Strategic Business Development & Consultancy), NHPC, Shri Rajat Gupta were present on the occasion, while the Ambassador of India to Norway, His Excellency Dr. Aquino Vimal attended the signing ceremony from Oslo.
