Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani takes over as new Vice Army Chief


Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani took over as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff today (July 1, 2024). He was serving as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Lucknow-based Central Command.

He was commissioned into the Garhwal Rifles in December 1985. He is a graduate of the prestigious National Defence Academy and Indian Military Academy. He is an alumnus of the Joint Services Command Staff College, Bracknell (UK) and the National Defence College, New Delhi. Shri Subramani holds a postgraduate degree from King's College London and an M.Phil. in Defence Studies from the University of Madras.

In his illustrious career spanning over 37 years, he has served in a wide range of conflict zones and varied terrains and has served in numerous command, staff and instructional appointments. Shri Subramani has vast knowledge and deep understanding of the operational dynamics on both the Western and Northern borders.

For his significant service to the nation, he has been awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal.
