Part of a series of eight vessels under a contract awarded in March 2022, FPV ‘Achal’ is a 52-meter-long, 320-ton vessel designed for high-speed coastal patrol and surveillance operations. It is equipped with advanced navigation and communication systems and powered by a Controllable Pitch Propeller system, capable of reaching speeds up to 27 knots.
With over 60% indigenous content, the vessel underscores India’s thrust on ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ in defence production. Built at a cost of ₹473 crore, the project also supports MSMEs and creates local employment.
FPV ‘Achal’ is tasked with coastal security, EEZ surveillance, anti-smuggling, search and rescue, and protection of offshore assets. It adds significant strength to the ICG’s operational capabilities across India’s vast maritime zones.
